Story time! Wait till you read this.
So, I work at a local small pet store in my town and I love love love talking to people about their snakes when they come in to get feeders. This man came in last week talking about his new ghost (he pauses) pinstripe (heck yes!) he got from NARBC a few weeks back. So I'm expecting this thing to cost a pretty penny when he is going on about pricing. But how much did he pay? 200!! I couldn't believe it! I didn't lol he said it was originally marked at 250 but he'd asked if they would take 200 and they said yes! WHOA! So it gets better/worse in a way. He bought it for his soon, they just have them as pets for now really, and his wife emails the breeder to ask if the snake was in frozen or live and he told me the breeder returned an aggravated email to him (keep this in mind too, he had told me he had talked to the vender for a good 30-45 minutes about the ghost gene) When I asked him why the aggravated response he told me they emailed him saying "oh yeah YOU'RE the guy who got our pinstripe ghost for 200 dollars!" Someone had scratched off the one in front of the 250! I was speechless... That REALLY sucks for the breeder I bet he/she was PISSED at whoever sold him that snake without realizing what it was. But the guy definitely got a steal of a deal. Crazy right???

Yes the guy got a great deal, BUT the going rate for let's say a 700g female Hypo Pin is 700-800, so it was originally overpriced as well (unless it is a adult ready to breed female).
Not much can be done on the breeder's part. If one of the folks at his table sold it so cheap, then he needs to take it up with them. There is no point at getting frustrated with the buyer.

That's why you don't let people who don't know the business sell your product for you. I wonder if they were given freedom to negotiate down a certain amount or if they went over the breeders head in reducing the price from 250 to 200...

This is also why you pay close attention to your product. We will rewrite our prices or description's as needed. Kids come up and touch the displays wipe the prices or the sex off. We also keep a price list behind the table showing everything we have on the table and what the asking price is with a blank for what the animal was sold for..Cant say it hasn't happened to me before and it's why we now do things the way we do.. At the end of the day I the breeder am totally responsible and coup-able for anything that leaves my table, this includes health, price and sex. We also take pics of every animal sold for an electronic receipt emailed to the customer. So it gives anyone behind my table 3-4 chances to double check: morph, sex, and price.
