The nice thing about expos is you can see what your buying. If you don't know the vendor's reputation, you may have to be leary of hets. If you know what healthy animals look like, you are pretty safe. Just be aware that because you pick out your animal yourself many times purchase at an expo is final, no returns or exchanges.

    reptile expos vs online

Most people in the hobby I'd like to think are trustworthy. If for no other reason than the fact that word of mouth and reputation mean so much. Idk what someone would try to get past you at a expo other then a het tho. Your hand picking the animal you want. So as long as you know what your looking for, you should be alright.

You should be able to check the vendor list in advance, and then you can look up your potential vendors on BOI before going to the show.

    Re: reptile expos vs online

There's always someone out there that puts a bad name on the industry and will try to pull something over your eyes. Majority of vendors online or expo are trustworthy and upstanding members of the reptile community but never forget to do your due diligence. Beauty of technology is if you have any doubts or need some more info on a person/business or animal you can always hop online from your phone and get some info.

If you have a bad gut feeling about a person, you're usually right. Any red flags at all about them or their animals, walk away. A deal that's too good to be true almost always is.

    Re: reptile expos vs online

I've mostly had good luck from both, but make sure to check any snake you buy over really well, meaning mites, popping, wheezing, bubbling, everything. Our very first reptile show, we brought home a female pastel with a really advanced RI which took us around ten hours to notice. It took us a month to get the people who sold her to us to cooperate enough to take her back and refund us the money.
