Thank you all for the replies. I also have a sunglow. Purchased as a sunglow from a trusted breeder. Im asking how to tell the difference between the two. Ill take ya'lls word that you think its an albino. But no one has explained how to tell them apart or why there's no pattern on his shed. As adults its a lot easier to see the differences. As evenstar pointed out. Albinos yellow upand sunglows keep more of there color. But how do you tell between the babies?

My Peaches is a hypo (no albino gene in her at all) and you can see a pattern in her shed. So I don't believe a clear shed is necessarily indicative of the hypo gene. However, my girl is NOT albino so hypo combined with the albino gene may produce clear sheds.

As babies, you can tell the difference between a sunglow and an albino by the clarity/crispness of the pattern and by the intensity of the overall color of the snake.

Albino = white background with pinkish saddles that have a slightly "washed out" appearance. The color of the saddles may vary in intensity a little, but they will almost always still looked washed out a bit and the edges may be blurred. The saddles will also have a more ) ( ) ( ) ( appearance traditional of a normal Colombian's pattern.


Sunglow = Peach-ish background with deep orange saddles that have a more solid pigmentation. The saddle colors will be deep and the edges crisp and distinct. The saddles will be much thiner and have a hypo's typical X X X butterfly shape.


Sometimes the only way to tell the difference is to place a sunglow next to an albino and compare. And both the snakes shown above are Kahl strain just to keep the comparison consistant.

Thank you again! Idk why but I couldn't find that answer on the internet. Think I've burnt myself out on Google for awhile. Lol anywho that was exactly what I was looking for. When theres a litter with both albinos and sunglows in them I can sort them out but for whatever reason the clear shed had me guessing and it was driving me nuts.

Damon, That is an Albino. You can tell an Albino from a Sunglow from the pattern particularly in the tail. I have an old pic saved somewhere that illustrates the differences well, but I am not sure where I saved it. I could show you in person, especially if you have both to compare against each other.

Good looking boy, my male sharp albino shed a few days after I got him and his shed was clear, I don't remember seeing any pattern at all but I didn't look for a pattern just the length of it and eye caps.

He looks very orange, do you know if he's Kahl or Sharp?

From just looking at ads i think sunglows tend to be brighter all around and clean in between saddles, not sure if this is a "rule" more of what I've noticed though.

It is a kahl albino (at least that's what it was sold as). i'm not working with any sharps yet. Thanks for the tip!

I do have both to compare side by side however I wasn't even thinking about that at the time. that and my sunglow is almost four feet and this one is just a wee worm. Thanks and if you could shoot that pic to me. knowledge is power and I need all I can get. lol

you cant always tell, especially nowadays with albinos getting nicer and nicer. With good selective breeding you can make albinos that will have you scratching your head. The shed thing, I see pattern in all my sheds with hypo, albino, sunglow, normal. I think if you cant tell just by glance and if your back and forth with it, its time to look at genetics, did either parent carry the hypo gene?? if you don't know the genetics, the boa grows and you still cant decide then breed to prove it! Im thinking if the seller breed it, or bought it from a breeder and that animal was a sunglow they wouldn't of sold it for $150 why skip out on sunglow money??
