So Watson finally accepted his first f/t mouse. Instead of constricting it he just grabbed it and ate it. Is that normal? Just wondering....

I've got a young spider ball that just started doing the same thing. 2 meals ago I switched from adult mice to weaned rats. My spider would always strike and constrict a mouse live or frozen for several minutes before eating. If he didn't want to eat I would try the "leave in for a while" method and the snake would never eat it. It had to be struck and constricted. Now that I'm feeding rats he hasn't struck at all, but I lay the rat in the cage and it's gone in a few minutes. So strange to make a change like that instantly when it came to new food.

My male corn has eaten mice right off the tweezers, didn't even grab it, just started to swallow it. I just got my Bp to strike a few days ago, i always had to leave the mouse, leave the room, and then he would eat it.

ive seen a FT feeding video from a big breeder, some BPs constricted the food. He used tweezers to feed, and when a snake wanted to just swallow it he wiggled the food around and pulled a bit and didnt let go, and that triggered many of the lazy snakes to properly constrict it.

you can try that, as soon as the snake shows serious interest you make it a bit difficult by wiggling the food around a bit, simulating some resistance.

I wish my Spider girl was a little lazier. She strikes hard and has maybe (can't confirm nor deny) gotten a certain 6'4" man off the ground...

As long as they're eating I say great!
