Salamander, relax.Getting a little Reptile Spray/Relief in the snake's face is not going to hurt him. When I had to spay down my baby boa, she was so wiggly, it was impossible not to get it in her face. And she was a TINY baby and under stress at the time - if it was going to hurt her, it would have immediately. The stuff is very safe. I really don't think that this was the only thing that contibuted to the death of the snake someone reported to have died from this spray earlier. That snake may very well have had either something else actually wrong with it, or had a very heightened sensitivity to the product or even to a single ingredient in the product. We'll never know. But hundreds of people use this product on thousands of snakes and this is the ONLY one I've heard of that has potentially died from it. You don't have to wash it off - just let it dry and give your snake some peace and quiet so it can de-stress.
I personally would not try preditory mites. I just don't like the idea of introducing MORE bugs to take care of the existing bugs. But to each his own - this can be effective. I just hate bugs period so I don't think it's for me. Besides, the Reptile Spray has been so effective and easy that I'm reluctant to change. I hate change.
So don't over think things! As I've said before, mites are a pain, but not the end of the world.
