Oh and nothing came out the first time this aforementioned snake did it, as well... but in the process, she did end up peeing. I wonder if it's a defensive gesture

Nope! On some species of lizards and frogs, only males have spurs (I can think of Chameleons off the top of my head)... but as far as BPs, they all do, unless they fall off throughout their life (which is okay and 'normal' too).

They are vestigial legs.... the remnants of back legs from when they evolved into snakes.
