Do your snakes hide a lot?

How often and when will your snakes come out of hiding, and how would you say this varies among species?

Mine both hide 90% of the time. Well my redtail is just settling in but my dums i see at night for 5 min

Its been my experience that it depends on the species of snake. My king snakes are most active during the day, I also see a lot of my redtail boa during the evening hours but if I want to catch a glimpse on the ball pythons its usually in the middle of the night when everything has been dark and quiet for a few hours

Yup. My balls usually only have their heads hanging out i
of their hides on feed day. My boas, my albino uses her hide all day, usually with just her head out, it as soon as the lights go out, she's up and about. My little hypo boy, rarely uses his hide. But he doesn't actively roam, he just hangs out on top of his hide during the day.

This morning as I was getting dressed, I was reaching into my sock drawer, where my Ball's tank sits on. I looked up to see if he was still in his cool hide and he was stretched out from his hide, a few inches above the ground, right in my face. Almost as if he was saying "hi"!

He will have his head hanging out of his hide periodically through the day. If I'm in the room doing things, he will pop his head out and watch what's going on. I'll occasionally catch him taking a sip of water or migrating from warm side to cool side. Working evenings I can observe more of his daytime activities, and they are a little more than one would think...just a bit. He is freshly fed as of Saturday night.

Night time, he really only comes out to roam around in the wee-hours of the morning. Then again, we're sleeping, so...

I think it varies among individuals as well as species.

My female ball likes to hang out at the front of her tub and is rarely in her hide. My male BP, like 99% of every other BP, hides nearly all the time (although he does stick his head out a lot).

My Argentine boas never hide. They will sometimes go in their boxes, but as soon as the tub opens up, they come out to play and see if I might have food.

My Colombian boas are all different. My female, Peaches, hides all the time just like a BP (but she's not the least bit shy, she's just private ). The other 3 will occasionally use their boxes, but only rarely.

My Dumerils is always under her substrate and she IS a bit shy, while my green tree python is always out for the world to see.

I love how they all have different quirks and personalities!

My ball python hides during the day, then comes out at night to cool off. If she was fed that night, she usually goes right back in her hide after eating. I always feed her at night, when she's more alert.
