I quit smoking years ago and try to eat good to reduce my risk of health problems. I have guns at home to reduce the risk of harm coming to my family. If I eventually get my permit to conceal carry, it will be because I've come to the conclusion that it will reduce my risk of harm. Nothing is absolute, you will never be totally out of harms way...it's all about reducing your risk...
Long ago growing up in Orlando, our neighborhood increasingly became worse and worse as far as crime goes. It was me, my brother and my Mom. No Dad there to protect us. Late one night, someone tried breaking in. They were actually in the process of jimmy'ing the front window open when my Mom and I finally figured out what the noise was. My Mom ran to her bedroom, grabbed her 30-30 rifle and tapped the window about 3 inches from his face. As soon as he saw the barrel of that gun he was gone. No shots fired. No one killed or injured. Our house was never broken in again, even though it was a literal crime wave in our neighborhood. Coincidence? I don't think so.
Our house was the one with the crazy lady with the rifle. All our neighbors houses were, unfortunately, targets to these scumbags. I will not be a target. And my family will not be a target...
