I feel ya. When my ex and I split up, I moved into a place where I couldn't have any pets. She sold my 2-55 gallon full blown coral reef tanks for literally pennies on the dollar. She also threw my cat outside to fend for himself. He has always been an indoor cat.

Needless to say, once I heard my cat was basically homeless, I took him in and moved to a place where I CAN have him.
