How is this setup and temps? Picture inside.

This is the setup that I am planning on using with my new BP. It's a glass tank, I have a UTH on both ends of the tank connected to a Herpstat 2. The probes are under the carpet bedding taped to the glass and the hides are placed over the probe locations. One end of the tank is at 91-93F and the other end is at 80-83F on the floor measured with a temp gun. Both hides are identical and offer two extra sources of water. I used plastic wrap to cover the screen top except for the very ends to keep humidity in the tank. My only concern is that the ambient temps inside the tank are right at 72-74 degrees. Is that going to be a issue even though my floor temps are right where they should be? My house is at 70F this time of year all the time. Anything else that I should change? I would like to have this perfect before he gets here. Thanks!

You should remove the tape from the probe, tape inside the cage is a tragedy just waiting to happen. Hot glue can be used to secure probe inside the cage, just use as little as possible so you don't insulate them.

You really don't want the cage to be any cooler than 75 degrees.

Do you have any sort of light for the tank? A low wattage fluorescent or even something like a 50 watt infrared heat lamp will fix your cools side/air temperature problem.

I'm not seeing the pic but sounds good. I use lamps instead of uths, but same setup almost. I use aspen for substrate, yours is mat of some sort?

Make sure that when your snake goes into the water bowl that is part of the hide that it does not displace to much water and cause an overflow. Also make sure when its hiding that it doesn't lift the hide spilling the water. Both will cause the probe to get wet and cool making your uth sky rocket and may cause an unsafe situation.

The tape holding the probes to the glass is underneath the substrate carpet where the snake can't get to it. I have lamps available but I'd rather not use them if I don't have to, to help retain the humidity in the tank.

You only think it can't. It may become its favorite hide. I find my young bloods under their paper towel substrate regularly. Make sure the temp of the glass is safe for it to lay on directly.

Well the temp of the glass is much hotter then above the carpet. Right at 105F on the hot side in order for the temps to be at 90-93F above the carpet.

I guarantee that your snake can get under the carpet. Tape simply shouldn't ever be used inside the cage.

Well that opens a whole other issue because the temps under the carpet are 105F on the hot side. I'd say that is too hot for him if he got under there.

Yep. A better place to put the probe is directly on the uth. This way the snake has no way to move them. I Vote to lose the carpet and get cypress mulch. It will help keep humidity in a glass tank too.
