The story of a new BP owner...

Obviously I've recently entered the world of Ball Pythons, and it was completely unintentional. My girlfriend got a part-time job at Petsmart taking care of some of their animals a couple of months ago and was bugging me about this cat. We had just moved into an apartment (with new furniture), and having too many damn cats my entire life, I said no.

Then one day, out of the blue, she was like "Since we can't get a cat, my next choice would be a ball python. The babies are so cute when I'm cleaning their cages and they hide in the crease of my shirt." WhatWhatWhat!?? It was completely unexpected, but I knew she liked snakes....and I have always though they were fascinating, but I refused to buy one from Petsmart....I knew someone much better...

A couple weeks later I was walking through Pete Kahl's place literally SURROUNDED by pythons and boas. Unfortunately the first few he handed me were WAYYYYYY out of my price range (pieds, candys, albinos, spiders.... Even one that he was convinced was the only one in existence....I have no clue what it was....but it had "KEEP" written all over its enclosure), but eventually we found Wasabi, a 6month old Enchi. As soon as I handed him to my girlfriend she was like "I want him", and the little man got a new home.

That's my unexpected story. Now we're not new to reptiles, I had an iguana (named Louis) for 15 years or so when I was younger, and she worked at a wildlife education center in Georgia (and still refers to their hog nose as the coolest snake she's ever met). I understand that an Iguana and a Ball Python are rather different, but we are both nerds who like information and don't waste time doing something half way. I'm hoping that with the help of all of you veterans out there, Wasabi will be grow to be old and happy. Thanks for reading!
