Trouble keeping up humidity in 55 Gallon tank

I recently purchased a beautiful central American Boa and I have him in a 55 Gallon tank but I'm having trouble keeping the humidity up. Any tips? I bought some moss but I don't know where to place it so that would help too. I mist constantly but it's not enough.

Since you guys clicked the thread I can't leave you disappointed here's Steelix

Camera doesn't do him justice he's fluorescent in the light!
    But anyways tips appreciated
    Temps are spot on btw

I have a ball in a 40 gallon glad tank and humidity is always hard to keep. I find apart from using cypress mulch as a substrate moss can really help. The way I use it and found works best is to keep it in each hide. Not only can it make a hide feel more secure you can must it to make a humid micro climate in the hides. When I get an up coming shed I soak the moss and keep it damp throughout the process. Since starting this a good time ago my ball has easy flawless sheds.

Other than that make sure you have a bowl it can soak in if it wants to.

Glass does not hold heat nor humidity very well, have you considered a PVC cage?

-Cover 90% of the screen lid with a damp towel, taped down tin foil, or plexiglass.
-Use substrate that will retain humidity well (coco husk or cypress mulch)
-Larger water bowl near the heat source. Same thing as the moss.
(Larger the bowl, larger the surface area for evaporation.)

Are you using a heat lamp? Heat lamps suck up humidity like a sponge, so I would try getting the belly and ambient temps up so you don't have to use a lamp.

A pic of the cage could help. I was guessing that you have already covered most of the screen. If you didn't. Placing a damp towel out putting foil tap on the outside of the to can help keep humidity and heat in.

Trouble keeping up humidity in 55 Gallon tank

Glass/screen top tanks sold in pet stores contrary to popular belief are not optimal for keeping snakes.

    To help keep humidity
    - cover a good portion of the top with wet towel. You will still need to spray a few times a day.
    - cut a piece of plexiglass to fit the top, but still allow air flow.
    - use a substrate that holds humidity.
.......toss the glass tank use it as a holding tank while you clean out your new PVC cage or rack system.

i say wrap the lid in some surran wrap, also, i say get a bigger water dish or circulatory water fountain of some sort to add more stable humidity.

next, you can put a layer of moss under a layer of repti bark or aspen

Trouble keeping up humidity in 55 Gallon tank

Actually, in my experience the towel does not need to be wet. We keep half the lid covered with a doubled hand towel and the humidities run better now than when it was wet. Yesterday I mixed some moss in with the aspen and then misted. It seems to have provided that little bit of extra oomph. Also, placing a water dish right in the center helps to keep it up.
