Re: Well, uh... how normal is a two-headed Ball Python?

Yep thats Stefan Broghammers 2-headed BP. Hatched at the facility of http://www.ms-reptilien.de/ . If i remember correctly it was sold to a reptile zoo in switzerland after it survived for more than a year. Its called Monty and Python.

it is not genetic, so breeding makes no sense, its extremely rare, i would guesstimate somewhere around 1 in 50000 snakes (based on how many snakes Brian Barczyk produces and how few 2-headeds he got).

Basically its siamese twins. Like siamese twins in humans. Two independent brains sharing one body. its never clear how long they survive, look at how often human siamese twins need surgery because something doesnt work out, but they are still valuable.

Do you think the other head ever gets jealous of the left side that does the eating???

Can the right head taste the mouse as the left head eats it??

yes it's rare. but happens! the bad part is most don't survive. there's a breeder in the pittsburgh area that had one hatched with 2 heads. he keeps it in his freezer as it didn't survive very long.

Re: Well, uh... how normal is a two-headed Ball Python?

This one appears to have good chances.

it depends on where exactly the split occurs. If the animal, for example, has one heart and one lung, that should be more stable than an animal with 2 hearts and 2 lungs. with 2 bloodstreams that are somehow connected and somehow seperate at the same time, if one head gets all the nutrients from digestion and the other head gets all the oxygen, thats bad.

but if its feeding without problems for 100 times and gets 2 years old and grows in size, chances are it will work out. Life expectency is still somewhat reduced because if one of the heads dies from natural causes the other head will follow.

unfortunately i couldnt find an update, that im german english bilingual should help, but i failed to locate the reptile zoo in Switzerland that purchased it.
