First off, with one of top of the other and heat rising, that's natural for the top one to be warmer. How far off is the bottom one? Temps would be great to see if it's a major issue or a minor one. Also, is it heat tape? Cable? Where is the sensor located?

90.0/81.5 and 86.5/76.8 in Fahrenheit then. Does it have the ceramic heat emitter on top of a screened top or how is it positioned? If you have pics, that would help. What are the viv's made out of? Sounds like a good chunk of the heat is going up from those numbers.

Alright. Looks to be made out of particleboard/wood so it shouldn't loose heat that much. What are you measuring temps with? I see the little thermometer/hygrometer in the center there on the top but those are far from accurate unfortunately. Something like a little Accurite digital would work great and I use them in my tubs because it lets me know highs/lows.

Also, you might try setting up the bottom the way you plan on doing so for the next snake. All of the stuff inside will help hold heat and with that heat emitter right over the hide, it will create a 'hotbox' effect so if you're measuring the temp inside that, it will be much warmer than the surrounding area. I have used that exact hide for corns with a light over it and you'd be amazed at the difference between inside and outside of that.

    Double vivarium!

That's just on the inside I have a digital on each side one with a more accurate hydrometer on the cool side I shall put the thermomiter in the hide and see what the readings are, would a reflective cealing in the bottom
    Viv work like tinfoil?

LOL! Yeah, I figured out how warm they get when my normally tolerant corns were giving me evil looks and laying outside their hide. This is why the rest of my guys are on belly heat but I'm not sure how you would go about doing that on that viv. The plastic holds heat very well and if your thermostat probe is reading air temp, it will always be lower than what your snake is getting and whatever that emitter is directly over will always be hotter. Do you have the stuff to set up the bottom viv like you're going to? Think about how much heat the stuff in the top tank retains and that will keep it warmer than an empty viv.

As for the foil idea, I'm not sure. There are ways to insulate the viv if it is indeed losing that much heat but until you set it up identical to the top, it will be hard to tell whether or not you need more insulation or if it's just the cage setup.
