    Hybrid hate?

So I'm relatively new to the world of herp keeping, and I'm really curious, why do so many people hate hybrids? One of my favorite snakes is the Carpondro, and in general, all of the hybrids I've seen look like such cool animals! Are people worried about muddying up the gene pools or something? I don't mean to offend or demean anyone's opinion, just curious

    Re: Hybrid hate?

    Hi,

Yes that concerns a lot of people - first generation hybrids are usually different enough to be picked out easily - but, if mixed back to either parent species, it can be harder to know what you are buying a few generations down the line.

I feel like there should be some meme-pic of some sort with the text:

"Hates hybrid projects because of the potential to muddy the genepool"

    "Breeds and sells ugly pastels"

    Re: Hybrid hate?

Thank you dr del, that pretty much answers my question. To be honest though, the idea of potentially creating new types of creatures down the line seems really cool to me, although perhaps not something that should be a goal to work towards! I can understand how people who make their living breeding specific snakes would want to be wary of it however, and that's why I try to get as much info on the linage any snake I'm thinking of getting.

    Hybrid hate?

    I'm a fan on hybrids.
I'm also a very big fan of keeping good records

Even pure bloodlines have the potential to get "muddy" in the wrong hands.

Love it! I can't stand seeing horribly ugly, muddied up and just poor quality pastels for sale! Are the people that breed them the same people that claim to hate hybrids? Who knows, but I'd like to think so. LOL

    Re: Hybrid hate?

I personally have no issue with hybrids, though I will say I have heard some good points on both sides. I think the biggest issue I have with hybrids is the potential carelessness of their breeders.
