T8 Questions

My brand new T8s (2) just arrived...got a few quick questions for those of you who have some experience with em...

Is the Lexel clear sealant (they came with) ok to use? the t8 instructions specifically say silicone sealant and the Lexel stuff isnt silicone at all....is sealing them really necessary?

Also AP forgot to drill the holes out to be able to stack them....a standard, correctly sized drill bit would be ok to use to drill out the stacking holes (i assume)?

A normal drill bit will be fine. Should drill just like wood.

I would send them an email about the sealant. If they sent it, I'm sure it's fine.
But ask to double check.

The sealant is what you are supposed to use, they wouldn't send you something that doesn't work/isn't safe. (I've sealed all of my cages with the included tube of Lexel) If you don't seal the cages the first time time that a snake pees/tips over a water dish you are going to have a big mess.

A 17/64" or 1/4" drill bit is what you should use (17/64" is the exact size of the holes on mine) The holes are placed 1.25 inches from the front of the cage, and 3.25 inches in from the sides. (these measurements are from the edge to the center of the holes)

One of the cages I got from them appeared to not have been drilled, but in fact it just wasn't drilled all the way. All it took was a little pressure using one of the pegs and the remaining material gave way.

YAY!! lol...thanks for the info....I figured that would be the case with the lexel...kinda figured it couldn't hurt to double check though

For sure. That stuff is a real pain to get back off the cage once it is on, so double checking first was a good idea.

I'm hoping to get some cages from them soon.

I am hoping once I seal them I won't be needing to disassemble for a very very long time!!

Sealing the cage is the hardest part of assembling the cage. (the only hard part really) It is exactly the same as caulking a bath tub or sink. I highly suggest that you doing something like this when sealing the cage. it will make the process so much easier, and the end result look so much better:

I would recommend using your finger to smooth out the bead, and force it into the cracks again after removing the tape. (like the video shows before removing the tape)

I did construction for about 5 years. That won't be a problem
