Well 24 hours or so after bringing her home and handling her a few times for about 10 min each yesterday she did this tonight when I offered food...




Only reason I offered tonight instead of waiting another day was cuz she was out of her hide chillin when I got home from work and as soon as I set the tub with mouse down she went all the way from warm to cold side to sniff around so I said the hell with it and dropped it in!


Not discrediting all the pros here just sayin she seems like I got a good feeder here

I've done that with 2 of my snakes. But the third I got was a shy girl so I let her settle in for 5 or so days. It depends on the snake and I'd like to think I can judge if a snake needs settling time

Lol not everyone has the wait a week rule, I'm a big advocate of feeding the first day.

I'm new to bp's and this one seems shy to me.. Wasn't untill the third time having her out that she actually un balled for me out of her cage.. And she's going into shed very soon I think.. She was a bit nippy yesterday tried to get me a few times but that's when I put her away.. And I learned don't move to fast around her when she's feeding as u can see towards the end of the video

I think the wait-a-week rule is more important for snakes that have been shipped overnight. But even some of those just settle in and get straight to looking for food... it all depends on the animal.

I could see the overnight being a bit more stressfull.. Used to work for ups and I know how they treat packages during load/unload.. Not sure if fed ex is anything diff or if they ship live items on diff trucks but when u see a shift supervisor tossing boxes of lightbulbs around makes me worry about shipping a pet

The sooner they eat the better...good husbandry, quiet environment all play a part in the time a snake gets settled in. There's no set amount of time just a recommendation for the stressed and shipped animals to feel more acquainted within their new environment.

I always feel better once the newly acquired snake starts eating, means you're doing it right...

Ya I want to get a couple diff hides I'm a lil worried as she seems to prefer the cave over the log.. I have seen her in both but pretty much stays in the cave.. It's a lil long for the cage and two of those with a water dish won't give her much room to move..

I was worried she liked one more then the other so I switched then.. Late last night and she went from warm to cold side to stay with the cave..

So I will b gettin two identical hides tmrw that fit the tank a bit better

Why do people recommend to wait a week? Simply because when offering advice to new inexperienced owner it is best to be on the safe side which will translate into a positive first experience.

Same goes with husbandry, temps etc....you'd be surprised to see how different the things I do are compare to the things I recommend.
