Lighting Question
I was just wondering what everyone thought about lighting for BP's and what everyone uses to create a light cycle for their BPs? I know most people just use ambient light or even nothing. I was using a Zoomed 15W Blue Day bulb, but recently switched to a Zoomed NatureSun 2.0 Full Spectrum UVA light that is 17W. Does anyone think this is too much, it is bright in the tank, but not overwhelming and it really brings out the color of the snake if and when she comes out of her hide during the day.

I use the sun.
If you want to use supplemental light, go for it, but the snake is not going to know the difference. I like to put my arboreal snakes under a daylight fluorescent so I can look at their prettiness. My ball pythons always hide, so I don't even bother putting them in display cages. Tubs for all the bps!

Nothing there is a window in the snake room that's how the light gets through

Re: Lighting Question
I use the sun as well. Unlike other types of reptiles ball pythons do not need specific types of UV bulbs or anything like that. They do perfectly fine with a day and night cycle coming from the lighting in the room and from the sun. My ball python is in the bedroom and I open up the shades during the day so that the sun comes in, then at night the room stays nice and dark from the sun going down. This has worked very well so far for my ball python. Hope this helps!

Lighting Question
There is no harm in using that light. There are some studies in progress with full spectrum lighting and nocturnal snakes they believe that it helps with metabolizing one mineral or other no results yet just a study. I don't have the link anymore so I am a bit sketchy on details.

I used a red heat lamp for a while, but all it did was dry out the cage quickly, so I stopped using it and everything is just fine.

I use the 15 watt T8 Reptisun 2.0 bulbs. I have them setup on a 12 hour automatic on/off timer.
