The herpstat 1 basic has a software clock that allows night drop functionality. This didn't use to be the case.

The biggest difference between the herpstat 1 and the herpstat 1 basic is the lack of a safety relay that will cut power to the thermostat in the event of a failure on the herpstat 1 basic. (prevents the thermostat from failing in the on position)

Personally I would get the herpstat intro + or the herpstat 1. The models without the safety relay aren't cheap enough to make them worth it to me.

The herpstat intro + will do what you want it, and has the safety relay that the herpstat 1 basic lacks.
