Question Trying to decide on a plastic cage for my BP

I have been stuck trying to figure out what brand of plastic cage to get for my BP. I have looked at Showcase Cages, NPI Cages and Animal Plastics. I have found it very, very difficult to maintain a humid environment for my snake and thus decided that a glass enclosure needs to go. Right now I have pipe insulation (made of denim) wrapped around the outside and a few layers on top where the heat lamp doesn't sit.

I use aspen wood shavings, so I am wondering which cage/terrarium would be a good fit for a BP. The one thing I didn't like about NPI cages is that there is a dip in the top center I guess where daytime lighting goes, my question is what about a heat lamp, where does that go? Or would it be eliminated in lieu of a UTH?

The animal plastics cages look pretty nice but are they any good? Does anyone own a Showcase cage, if so do you like it or now that you own one, would you have went with something else?

    Thanks,

    PD

Thats great for 2 BP's.... 48 inches wide.... Definitely need divider. I ended up getting 2 Vision V221's with radiant heat panels and the Herpstat 4... So far they are working great!

I'm in exactly the same boat and have narrowed it down to theT8. However, I have yet to decide if I will divide it. I also have to decide how to heat it, as my house is cold in the winter. I want to stay away from heat lamps and am thinking of UTH and RHP. The options and opinions are dizzying!

I decided to go with proline because of the HDPE does not absorb biofluids and I like the drop down window in front rather than the slide. I heard that the AP cages are pretty good about not absorbing too much but I just did not want to fight a snake out of a divided window. I also went with RHPs and I will try those out first to see if it works and if I need to bump it up I will add UTH. I haven't got them in yet but I will post the setups and provide feedback once I got them up and running.

Uth are far easier than rhps for generating a gradient. Both are radiant heat and the behavior is similar. I would suggest uth heating with day fl lights and deep blue led night lighting. The lighting go a long way to directly heat ambient temps. Rhp do not heat air but objects that then heat air. You can always spend extra later on rhp if you find you need them and if you don't you save cash and the annoyance of making something do what it doesn't naturally.

Re: Trying to decide on a plastic cage for my BP

I currently have one UTH that runs on the left side of the tank and nothing on the right side aka the cool side. When I ran just the UTH it was still really cold inside thus I got the infrared heater going on top. Along with pipe insulation around the glass. It is cold in this house even with the thermostat set at 70°F. I never though about rhps until recently... they seem like an expense I should invest in later. I am currently concerned with an all glass enclosure. Do I need a full spectrum daytime light? I have read on various different care pages that you do and others say you don't, so it gets pretty confusing there.

For AP's why the T8 over the T3? I only have on BP at the moment. His current set up: he's in a 40gal breeder.

I didn't like Vision cages to be honest. I just want to be able to put lights on and not have to worry about affixing them to the plastic. Which is why I like the Showcase style and/or the AP's style of plastics. Does anyone have an NPI cage? Or why no one has went with that type of set up?

I chose the T8 over the T3 because it is bigger and cheaper. With the T8 you can get a divider and house 2 BP's or use the full thing for 1 snake.

I like full spectrum lights, I use zoo-med naturesun bulbs (formally reptisun 2.0) but they certainly aren't necessary. I've been running an experiment on lighting, and honestly the BP in total darkness 24/7 is doing the best.

So my awesome husband ended up buying me a Showcase cage from a guy on CL. It measures 36x24x24 all I need now is a keylock to keep Buddy from escaping. This thing is bigger than I thought it would be.
