5 year old ball at Humane Society in Iowa
Oh boy...I was just made aware that there is a ball at a local Humane Society. They state that she is a female. We just got our first ball last November. He is at 71g now and we are finally getting to where we feel that we have the husbandry and feeding figured out. Am I ready to try to take in a rescue? I'm not sure what kind of shape she is in. They only have one photo listed and are of course closed at this time. If anyone cares to look it up; it is at the siouxlandhumanesociety.org. The set up in the photo does not look good and the city (Sioux City, Iowa) does not allow pythons in city limits. I live in the country 50 miles away so that does not apply to me. What do I do? Do I try to help this girl or hope someone else better qaulified steps forward?
By the way, we totally LOVE the little guy we have!! I'm worried about this one though...and I have a HUGE soft spot for critters in need!!

Your current ball definitely could be underweight. What are you feeding him and how often? I feed with aspirations of breeding, but the last little girl I got was at 73g when I got her and about a month later she was sitting at 120g. (Not necessarily empty, though. She was empty when I picked her up.)

Yeah, he is kinda small. We had a rough time getting him started eating when we got him home. Got lots of good advice here and he is finally eating every 5 days like a champ. We had to give him live but at least he is now gaining weight and has had a shed. With help here, we have got his temps correct and he seems to be doing really well. Growing fast now.The site I gave in my first post is the Facebook site for the humane society. They do not have her on their regular website. Anyone else in Iowa ? Check her out. They are asking only 50 dollars. I am so tempted to go get her...

He is eating live mice,10 to 12 grams every 5 days. I don't think he had ever eaten when I got him at the pet store. It took an assist with a punky to get him started. Last one he nailed as soon as I dropped it in!

Its really all about how comfortable you are with taking "her" in. If you have space to properly house, and care for the rescue, and are motivated to so, I'd say go for it. However, go and check the animal or first because if it's a train wreck you might want to leave that to someone with a bit more experience. Either way good luck.

Do you have a direct link to the snake? I can't find anything other than cats and dogs on their site.
I'm in Iowa, but not close.

She comes with the aquarium. As long as your motivated you could very well give the snake a good home
