I would suggest a Corn Snake. They are easy snakes to take care of. They do get about 4 feet in lenght though, and only about 2 - 3 inches in diameter. There ae so many morphs to choose from, and they are inexpensive. I think that they run anywhere i te neighborhood of about $40 - $90 dending on the morph that you get.
