Rosy Boas are supposed to be good beginner snakes, and as I recall, they don't get much more than about 3 feet long. Biggest trouble with them is that they don't captive breed as readily as some other species, so it's harder to find CB specimens. Good news on that is that Rosies are native to the U.S., so even wild caught specimens aren't "imported".
