Heartbroken :(

One of my 3 Spider genes snakes has a noticeable wobble. She is a weirdo, but functions otherwise just fine.

no need to be heart broken over this .. the snakes are still perfectly healthy, they just love to "dance" .. i call it dancing .. they sure got the moves, especially a bumblebee female of mine (best eater I got and a real w-h-o-r-e if you don't mind the harsh language - bread with 2 of my males in 2 days )

I hatched out a little het pied male. I had a temp spike just after he pipped his egg, and while the rest of his clutch seemed off for a little while, they got better quickly. This little guy tore my heart to watch him. He literally tied himself into knots. His body would flatten, and he'd be inside out and upside down forwards and backwards all at the same time. It made me sick to look at him.

However, he shed out just like the others, so I decided I'd try feeding him. Striking a mouse was out of the question, he couldn't possibly co-ordinate enough to even track, let alone strike. So I patiently untangled him as best I could and placed a mouse pinky in his mouth. Only to discover swallowing was impossible as well. So I gently slid the mouse down to his stomach and waited to see what would happen. He digested just fine and was able to defecate normally. But to watch him was horrific and painful. I have no idea why I didn't put him down. I had to put the food down into his stomach each time I fed him. But he continued to eat and defecate, and he shed just fine. And still I just hurt inside to watch him. I knew he'd never live a normal life, and he should be put down. But I didn't do it.

Then when he was about 6 weeks old, I finally decided to put him down. He'd never be normal. I had put another mouse fuzzy in his tub, and was changing his water and thinking of what needed to be done. All of a sudden, my husband makes a noise and then starts to laugh. I poked my head out of the bathroom to see what was so funny. My little pretzel boy had managed to strike and wrap that fuzzy all on his own. And more than that, he then ate it on his own as well. I couldn't believe it. I had been telling myself he was getting better, but I had thought it was wishful thinking. The following week, he struck, coiled and ate all by himself again. And lo and behold he'd not as twisty anymore, either. So for now, he's just going to stay here with me, and I will watch how he grows and changes. Perhaps one day, he'll find a very special home of his own.

I guess I am rambling on because I know what you are going through, but don't ever count these little guys out, they may just surprise you.

I think I was just shocked when I saw it for the first time. Of course, I had researched it before and I knew everything about it... It's just different to see it in person happening to your own snake. But I realized, he's still the sweetest snake and the happiest snake in the world and the wobble changes nothing. I was just a little sad to see it at first.

And after watching some other snakes wobble, it's not that bad at all so I'm feeling better

Does anybody else find it bizarre that the snake only corkscrews in his cage? Any chance the cage is too hot?

Hot side is 87. Cold side is 77. Ambient is 83. Humidity doesn't get below 50.

I admit, watching my spider boy corkscrew and go wild used to make me anxious and worried. It really bothered me because I felt like he was struggling. After a while it bothered me less. He ate on his own, but had trouble finding the rodent. He missed more than my other snakes, but he's been a great feeder.

My spider and killerbee will wobble when I'm trying to take pictures of them on a cold piece of melamine. I haven't really messed with the stingerbee, but he has done it once or twice after I wake him up for a cleaning. I don't think temperature is the cause for the wobble. My next guess would be hunger, but I don't think they get hungry when you keep them fed every week.. Stress maybe? Or maybe it really is just a motor defect, and they simply have trouble moving forward in the direction they choose o_O..

He's fine when he's on the ground but as soon as he tries to slither up the sides of his cage, it seems as he becomes really wobbly and then he starts flipping around like a weirdo. I don't think it has anything to do with temp or hunger. I definitely seems to be motor defect type of thing.
