Help with BTS having bad shed
I rescued a BTS from a freshmen in the dorms at my university about a month ago. Poor guy didn't have heat, substrate, clean water, and his backbone was visible. He has had about 3-4 neglectful owners during his 2-3 year life. He is now having a really bad shed. He has been shedding for about 4 days in tiny chunks. Should I give him a soak to help his shed?

Re: Help with BTS having bad shed
I was helping someone that I knew that was having some humidity issues. What I did was through her in a bathtub with warm water not to hot. Maybe around 85 or 90 degrees. Then slowly work the shed off but I would wait a few more days and see if the snake can get it off on its own. Just my opinion I am sure other people on here will have other methods and they will reply dont worry a lot of helpful people on this forum. GOOD LUCK!

Thanks, gave him a soak and a lot came off. Any tips on how to get him to relax? He does not bite or strike, but he will huff all day at me.

Depends on what locale he is - he may be naturally huffy. But given a few months with non-stressful handling he should calm down. Bluetongueskinks.net has a lot of helpful posts on taming down stressed blueys. Once they're in a good environment they'll become less stressed and more easily handled. Some bts are just huffy though, especially wc ones bought from pet stores.
