    Re: The quit smoking thread!

I've been using my eGo e-cig for 6 months now. The first thing that I noticed after a couple of days, is that I could smell other smokers. I always think to myself,"Ewww! that is what I smelled like for 26 years." The good thing about re-fillable e-cigs, is that you can get nicotine-free liquid for them if you choose. If you have made it 3 days without a cigarette, congratulations! That is the first step. The physical addiction to nicotine is broken. The rest is mental. If you think that you need a cigarette, it's just that, thinking...

My bf had awesome success quitting with the E-cig. After awhile he quit even using it except rarely. He's been smoke free around 3 years now and doesn't even struggle much with it. If he does have the urge he grabs the E-cig.

i love Cracked. lol well today is day 6ish.. after day 3 it got SIGNIFICANTLY easier. the last cig i had was about 5:00 in the morning new years day (still hadn't gone to sleep lol). still getting a few cravings throughout the day, but they aren't so bad i wanna grab the closest person by the neck and squeeze as hard as i can. lol i'm noticing i can smell smoke on other people a lot more now.. and it stinks.

but good news: it's getting easier. i think it'll be more of a downhill journey from here on out. those first 3 days might as well have been water board torture. lol

    Definitely a funny group!

EDIT: The forum also has a thread called the "Beer-Off" that has been going on for a few years. It started with alcoholism but there are plenty of other addictions discussed in there. I've been reading it since it started and there is some great insight in there.

    You can do it.
I was so, so addicted to nicotine, and smoked a half a pack to a pack a day (sometimes more if I was partying) for 4 ish years.

I finally decided I was going to quit in University and I did. It was tough, and I slipped up a couple times at the beginning when I was stressed, but here I am almost 4 years later smoke-free.

When you get the urge, going for a walk helps. Sipping cool water helps.

I still get cravings a lot of the time. I'm hoping that will end soon.

Reach for the stars, and if you don't grab them at least you'll fall on top of the world.

    Re: The quit smoking thread!

When I had the occasional urge shortly after quitting the water trick did help. Instead of a cigarette, which was easily accessed I would drink 2 large glasses of water and go do something to free my mind.

I started smoking cloves occasionally when I was 17. When I turned 18 was when I started buying packs, and started working at a restaurant. That's probably the worst place to be if you want to quit: pretty much EVERYONE smokes, and everyone goes in little cliques for smoke breaks. You get left out a lot if you don't smoke...

Then I moved out and BAM, I was a pack a day smoker. Had to smoke on the hour, every hour I was awake. If I was partying and/or drinking (which I did a lot of), I smoked more.

For various health reasons, I quit. I watched my grandmother go through all sorts of hell because of smoking and I was like "what am I doing?" I had a few relapses but I'm proud to say that I am a non-smoker. Unless you count an occasional hookah. You just need an iron will and to know that it's a lot easier to quit now than it is to fight whatever diseases you could potentially get from continuing the habit!

Gum was my thing though. I always had packs of gum around, so when I wanted to smoke a cig, I chewed a piece of gum.
