HP is kinda garbage... If you need a cheap computer it will do fine, but expect it to break within 2 years.

I'd recommend a macbook pro, but it seems to be out of your price range.

Sager and Asus are good brands.

Plenty of people use macs for gaming. Dual booting of course.

Tech comparison time. My 3 and a half year old asus laptop vs the brand spanking new macbook pro

    Price:
    Mac: $1699, $1999, $2199, $2799
    Mine: $1100

    Processor:
Mac: 2.5 GHz dual core, 2.5 GHz Dual core, 2.3 GHz quad core, 2.6 GHz quad core
    Mine: 2.8 GHz dual core

    RAM:
    Mac: 8 gigs, 8 gigs
    Mine: 6 gigs

    Storage:
    Mac: 128 GB, 256 GB, 256GB, 512 GB
Mine: Came stock with 500 GB, threw in a second harddrive for a total of 1 TB

    Video card:
Mac: Intel HD Graphics 4000, Intel HD Graphics 4000/NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M with 1GB of GDDR5 memory and automatic graphics switching
Mine: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260M Cuda with 1GB of GDDR3 VRAM

So basically, my three and a half year old laptop is on par with a number of things that the macbook pro. Even in its age it could probably still out perform the mac. Not to mention, with how thin that thing is, it's going to over heat. Badly.

Oh. Just because I could, I went out and found the top of the line asus gaming laptop which is the Asus-G75VW. It has pretty much the same specs as the high end $2799 mac.

    The Asus-G75VW is $1250.
