I fish off the west coast and its the same thing-too many people trying to regulate something they have never come down to the ocean to look at first hand-just sit in their office 1000 miles from the ocean and try to decide how to manage the fisheries.
Everyones first question for me is -"Oh,your a fisherman, hows that going?Do you ever catch anything?Or think im some juggernaught that catches and kills everything that comes near the boat.
Most of our fisheries are very well managed, and we actually had the best year ever as far as return # go for a few different fisheries-despite what they report on the news(happy news doesnt get ratings)
um,i could go on,but ,sorry im getting of topic.

I remember on the news there was this "hippie" looking envirnmentalist telling them about fish populations and what not. The fisherman got in his face and said something along the lines of "Do you have boat payments, do you fish for a living, ect" It was clear he'd never even gone on a fishing boat. It was awsome, no fights tho. Like when they banned it in Canada or whatnot.

ya seems the public view fishermen as crazy fish killers, but its in our best interest to make sure theres going to be lots for the next year.Personaly i think theres more damage done by sports fishing cause they dont have the resources to follow every single guy out there and make sure hes not keeping stuff he shouldnt be.The amount of stuff a commercial fleet catches seems like alot cause it happens all in a few days or weeks, but sports fishing as a whole takes alot(possibly more)just spreads it out over a longer time.
I know for some of the licences to even be able to fish its alot of money(1 my boss has is over 600,000)then theres the yearly fees-usually a few thousand, and equipment-again$$$,and the boat, crew, food and supplies-for when your gone for weeks or months at a time.....on and on..... so why would someone after spending all this money want to go and kill off all the fish so that they are stuck with a huge debt?I just dont get why people think someone would want to do that.

The only difference between tattooed people and non-tattooed people is....
....Tattooed people don't care if you're not tattooed.
