    It depends on the season. Summer I leave it off most of the time I usually have it set to be on for a few hours here and there. Fall it is on 12 hours and off 12 winter (in Nova scotia Canada it gets cold) I have it on 24/7 and spring I go back to a 12 on 12 off cycle. Ambients have a large range so greater precision is not needed the beauty of the system is they do not get super hot just warm so they really cannot over heat things.
