I'm not even going to open that link because it will only upset me.
It is very sad to see the state we've come to. I'm a Bible student, and I believe what Genesis says about animals. We were intended to be their stewards, their custodians, it was our job to care for them and look after them, and just generally enjoy them. Why do you think so many people keep pets that are just like members of the family?
Of course, seeing how people today treat their own families like garbage, I guess I shouldn't be surprised animals are treated as disposable as well. When kids kill their parents for no reason, when siblings kill each other or parents kill their defenseless babies, seeing people treat animals this way should seem pretty much par for the course.
I guess the best I can do is just keep trying to improve my little piece of the world. If my mother is safe and cared for, my kids as competent as I can make them, my animals as cared for as I know how to, then I guess I can be considered fortunate. I can't change everything that is wrong in this world, and I'd go insane if I tried. But if I can make my little piece better than it was, well then I think that counts for a lot. I do my best to educate anyone who will listen, I do my best to enlighten instead of condemn when I know mistakes are not made out of malice. I try to keep my tongue and my temper around hopelessly ignorant people, because it does no good to argue and berate someone who does not care. "Never argue with a fool -- people might not be able to tell the difference." or in more blatant terms: "Never argue with an idiot, he will drag you down to his level, and then beat you with experience."
