need help.....temps!
I have an abs plastics enclosure that has heat cable (finally got that to stick) and a 15w tube black light in it. I have even taped a dome light to the back to they to boost temps. My probe which is laying on the bottom of the enclosure says 98 but my temp gun pointing on the aspen says 85 on the hot end and 76 on the cool. How can I boost ambient temps in an enclosure like this. I was thinking of sticking an uth pad on top on the outside of the enclosure?

Re: need help.....temps!
Our heat is set to 70 but the house is not insulated very well. My tortoises are in the same room and there temps are good. If I heat the room they will get too hot. Is there anything I can do for just that one enclosure?

How thick is the aspen? The bottom of the change shouldn't be that hot
How big is the cage?

The cage is 42 x 20 x 18 I think. The aspen is 3" thick. They seem like they are happy but I'm concerned the ambient is too cold.

You need to make the aspen 1/2" or less for the heat cable to work properly. If your snake digs down to the bottom he could burn himself at that temperature. No part of the cage should ever get above 95.
What are you using to measure air temps? They should be higher than they are.

A temp gun to measure the ambient

Temp guns can't measure ambient temperatures, they only measure surface temperatures.
You need a probed thermometer like this:

These cost $12 at Walmart. They measure 2 temperatures and humidity.

That is the exact one I am using. I have it burrowed under the substrate on floor to measure the cable temp . My temp gun is reading a surface temp of 78. What can I use to boost that temp

Did you thin out the substrate layer?
Is the heat cable actually inside the cage?
Is the heat cable being regulated by a thermostat?
