I spend ridiculous amounts of time on this site. It's easy for me to have up in the background at work, and I just like keeping a "pulse" on the reptile world. Not sure if it counts as social networking, as I spend more time reading than anything. Lurked for years, and two years as an active member I still learn new things every day Love this place

Re: So..does BP.net count as social networking?

I'm loving this site! Not posting a whole lot, but reading a lot, and learning, and still getting a feel for the general environment of it.

    Elf on a Shelf....
    That's just scary.
Why keep a snake? Why keep any animal? Because you enjoy the animal, find something beautiful and fascinating about it, and it fits seamlessly into your lifestyle.

I'm logged into BP.net almost 24/7. I don't post anything a good chunk of the time...especially not when school is really hectic for me, but I'm on several times a day at the least. I start my day with BP.net and coffee, check it periodically throughout the day, and end it by reading all the new nightly updates before going to sleep. I get really frustrated actually when there's nothing new to read for hours or even a couple days! lol. I also check FB all the time...but usually that's just for something to do while waiting for new posts here.

You can usually tell when I'm really bogged down at school based on my activity level. I will post regularly, almost every day...if not everyday, when I'm not super busy. But then suddenly I don't post for days or weeks...and that's when I have exams or something. Mid-semester on, my activity level tapers off. I still usually am lurking and reading...just not taking the time to reply. My FB posting on the other hand...will increase when I get busy with school. Mostly complaining status updates about some class or another...but still.

I totally relate to this! Sundays can get pretty slow on the forums and that's one of my quietest days at work where it's possible for me to wait all day with nothing to do but read BP.net... But everyone has a life and is enjoying the weekend rather than posting, haha

I did NOT see that coming! I just knew you were going to be the one to end the Elf mystery. What about Pinterest? Can you tell me about that? It looks like you click through pictures of sweaters and candles all day long and then post what you like all over Facebook. You know, in case one of your friends you haven't seen since high-school want to buy you a Cartier watch and isn't sure what your style is.

This is the story behind elf on a shelf:

    http://www.elfontheshelf.com/AboutUs/TheTradition.aspx

Basically, you move the elf around each night to a different location etc. er I mean..he flies back and likes to play games and hide and seek...

Maybe I should get one. My boyfriend is working out of town. In the 30 hours he's been gone this week my cat has chewed up the power cord to his computer, I've melted a plastic spatula, his blueray player is on the Fritz (I think that one's just an incorrect install on my part), and I spilled an entire Costco sized bag of oatmeal. That's going to be one of those messes you keep finding traces of for years!

I still have four days to go. He's 32 and far more serious and logical than I. Be straight with me, what are the chances I could pull off, "That damned elf is trying my last nerve! You wont even believe what he did now!"?

"I know it sounds ridiculous, but it's not just me! Check out Facebook, it's happening to everyone! One even took a crap on a fresh baked cookie in the middle of the night!"

Add to that the elf on a shelf contest that has become rather inappropriate! That's where I learned about this (was posted on a blog i follow).

I don't get pinterest either. A friend of mine said I "HAVE" to do it, I'll love it. So I tried it. Nope. Just don't get it. Searching Google and bookmarking sites i like is far easier than using Pinterest.
