Hides for snakes - this work?
I am working on getting everything needed so I can have a proper set up ready ahead of time. I understand ball pythons need hides (one on the cool side, one on the hot side). I have some leftover plastic igloos i used for my rats. If I cleaned these up well, can I use them for ball pythons? The ones I have are somewhat see-through, but not very much. If it isn't a good idea to use them, I won't, but wanted to check first before I got rid of them.
The ones I have are like these, and the large, but not jumbo, size: http://www.petsmart.com/product/inde...1-001b2166c2c0
Why keep a snake? Why keep any animal? Because you enjoy the animal, find something beautiful and fascinating about it, and it fits seamlessly into your lifestyle.

I'd try them and see if they like them. Check for any sharp bits first. The only potential problem I see is that because they are a little see-through, they might not like them, but it won't hurt anything to offer them.
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort. ~ Herm Albright

My normal ball has a humid hide that's see thru and he's always in it haha those look like the lil houses I'm getting to put in with some of my rats cuz they won't stop eating the pop boxes. I say try them if the snake is happy you win

I use the things for the bottom of flower pots. You can find plastic ones for super cheap. I just cut a small hole in the side and melt the edge a bit so it isn't sharp. Bobs ur uncle!

Just put some of the substrate you use on top of it. When my guy was little I used the hide to make a cave (I use Eco earth) but he proved he can't have a cave with out covering the opening and not coming out lol he doesn't mind the see thru ness tho I think

I used those exact same ones when my guy was smaller. Their dome shape definitely allows contact on all sides for your ball to feel secure as long as it's a good fit!

This is very true, and the main reason for a set up before arrival is to ensure you have the proper gradient and humidity and it can be stablized

Yup!
It reminds me of when I raised chicks. Had to have the brooder set up ahead of time to make sure the temperature was correct and all equipment was functioning. That way when they arrived they could go directly in it, thus reducing stress and increasing survivorship. I had 100% success with those chicks, not one single mortality, so must have done something right! But anyway... just reminds me of that, so fortunately I'm no strangers to it.
