List of local exotic vets??
Does anyone know of any websites or groups that may know or have a directory listing for herp vets, hopefully local to myself??
Also, how do you bring your snakes in when you do have to do so?

We have one right here on BP.net:

I would get a plastic tub (preferably one that isn't clear) and use that for transportation.

I'm not sure where you live. Luckily I have one of the best exotic vets in the country here in northern VA. He even has in depth knowledge of Uroplatus which really helps whenever we have one that starts to look ill. I have always just put my animals in a sterilite tub and brought them in that way. I have yet to need to bring in a snake because we just got into BPs this year but I would probably bag them and bring them in a sterilite tub. The bag would prevent any kind of added stress to a sick animal.

If you do not have a good vet in your area, you can always ship to a vet, once you've made prior arrangements. The vet can consult with you over the phone and when treatment is done, the vet can ship back.

Where are you located and maybe people can give you suggestions.
When bringing a snake to the vet I put them in a pillow case or snake bag and then set that in a cardboard box or tub.

Re: List of local exotic vets??
Generally snakes fare best when transported in a bag, either a pillowcase or snake bag work well. Lizards do best in a solid sided enclosure, preferably one that they can't see through to help minimize stress. In both cases adding some shredded paper for them to brace against/act as insulation can also be helpful.
Bring papertowels, too. Something about a car ride almost always guarantees a bowel movement, especially with lizards!

I found my vet on http://www.herpvetconnection.com/
There was a decent list with reviews for my area. I found a guy that started the local zoo's veterinarian program and does a bunch of volunteer rescue/conservation work. And he turned out to be reasonably priced vet and a very nice guy.
