    Question Male Wont Lock Up

I have a male spider ball python and it is 700g, about 3' in length and is 11 months old. When i put it in with my female (over 2100g, 4'6" in length and around 4 years old) it trys to escape the enclosure or something like its avoiding the female. The female seems really interested in the male though. When they sit in the hide the male curls up in the corners and sometimes the female lays on top of it. Both have never bread before. I know younger & lighter males have bread, but could the age of the male be the problem? Thanks in advanced

Take out the hide. Also are you sure you have a male and a female?

x2 double check the sexes. This wouldn't be the first time this has happened Hope not though!

Sometimes a male just wont take to a female and likewise the other way. He might not be ready either. Sometimes males take longer to mature..

I have a 700 gram lesser male I've been trying to pair with my spider for the last month. They never locked. As soon as I threw my pinstripe in with the spider, I had a lock within the hour.

I had the hide out to begin with but put it back in so the male would calm down lol, it is back out now.

They were popped at birth by the original breeders and they were probed in september, so their sexes are definit. The male must just not be ready

How many times have you tried this over what amount of time? Maybe he's waiting for some privacy.

Give it time. She might not be receptive yet, or they could be locking when you aren't looking.

Keep pairing..... Unless you have an ultrasound it is impossible to figure ou exactly when the female is ready!!!!! This is why we pair every 3 days to make sure!!! Keep pairing. Im having the smae problem this year and had it last year also but as soon as december rolled around locks like crazy. Time is key here!!! Hope that helps. Ive been pairing since oct 1 and seen 1 lock outta 10 pairs

You said she was receptive, does that mean she wagged her tail and scented up the tub, or?

When a female(ball python) sits on a male it means one thing...NOOOO
