What concerns me is that it says constrictor snakes. By definition, corn snakes are constrictors! I support microchipping but not until all cats and dogs are required to be microchipped as well. Cats are far worse for the ecosystem and dogs are far more dangerous to humans than most snakes that would be released. Add to the damage that a dog can do the diseases that they can carry that can kill a human (rabies) and I think you get the point. I won't microchip my alligators or olive python that I'm going to get in the near future until all of my neighbor's cats and dogs are chipped.

Humans have done way more damage than any snake, cat or dog. Yet everyone and anyone has the right to pop out as many as they want. :p

It just grates me that the general consensus is that a snake is a snake is a snake. Never mind the THOUSANDS of species. Thousands. Dog breeds differ a great deal, how hard can it be to grasp that snakes vary even more. Not that the laws that ban specific species are any better, but the blanket "exotic" bans and regulations are increasingly frustrating. The "all snakes are bad snakes" mentality really reeks out of those types of legislation. I'm lucky to have friends and family who will give me a good ear when I feel a topic or issue comes up that I can help them understand without the common misconceptions, if only lawmakers were so reasonable...

Lawmakers have a deep pocket, not a good ear.

Big snakes should DEFINITLY be microchipped. My ol ladys cat and teacup dog are required by the state to be micro chipped but someone can own a 20 foot retic or burmese no problem...? Big snakes should totally have to be chipped. Kind of common sense if you ask me

Micro-chipping is a great idea, and I think it wouldn't be uncalled for to have to have a permit in order to own/care for them. Falconry sets a great example IMO in requiring people to have the capability and resources to care for the animal before owning one, as well as having documentation with an ID tag (ring around the foot in that case). Huge PITA for anyone who doesn't want to jump through the hoops, and it helps keep wishy washy people who have an initial "Ooo I want it" reaction to something only to get bored with an animal that really needs specialized care and maintenance. Wish they'd consider something like that for venomous snakes or large constrictors, but lawmakers get pretty black and white (and impressionable...) with reptiles. If it's unsafe for one person to have one, it's unsafe for everyone. That's the frustrating part
