The most intense gruesome feeding ive witnessed.
My lemon pastel ball python weighs in around 650grams and i fed him the other day with a 100gram medium rat. Usually how my bp eats is that he only strikes and constricts the rodent using around 1/3 of his body. This time he struck the rodent and fully wrapped his entire body around the rodent. It was intense to watch.
Next thing i hear is teeth biting/gnawing but i cant see whats going on because the snake is fully wrapped around the rodent. At this point I'm thinking the rat is biting away at my bp. I take my tongs to grab the rats tail and try to wiggle him around so that he can be distracted and this is what i came to see.

I know the risks of feeding live, but i have tried feeding PK and frozen/thawed but he just wont eat. He only eats live. Any suggestions?

The blood is most likely from the rat. I feed live almost exclusively, and on occasion the kill will be bloody.

Re: The most intense gruesome feeding ive witnessed.
Is that blood from the snake or the rat?
Adversity does not build character, it reveals it

My bad i forgot to include in the original post. The blood is from the rat. All came out from the nose and mouth.

Huhu, the snake is most likely fine, rats will just bleed like hell if they get struck near an artery.
Wait until you get one in the 2000+ gram range, my female normal squeezed a rat so hard one of its eyeballs popped out of the poor thing's skull the last time I fed her!

Well, maybe he struck and used his whole body to coil because the rat was too big. A medium rat seems too big for a 650 gram snake, imo.

The store I pick up the day from says it's a medium rat. I weighed it and it was 100 grams exactly. Giving my bp is around 650+ grams, 100grams is right around 15% body weight.

100 gram rat is too big of a meal for a 650 gram snake IMO.
10% would be a 65 gram rat, just about perfect for a weekly meal.
