Coachwhip or Black Racer Juvenille
One of my students just brought me this snake. I've never seen one before and I think that its either a coachwhip or a black racer. I've never seen a juvenile of either. I would like a 2nd and 3rd opinion.

Re: Coachwhip or Black Racer Juvenille
Google imaged both, I'd say it's a coachwhip. Someone with more XP would probably know better though.

Looks like a coachwhip to me.

Re: Coachwhip or Black Racer Juvenille
It looks like a racer to me. On all the juvenile coachwhips I've seen the tails just keep going and going. That baby's tail looks short by comparison. Also the head shape just doesn't seem quite right for a coachwhip.

I'd say coach whip. Here is a small female I had at one point. They look pretty similar.

Juvenile coachwhips and racers look pretty similar. Guess I'm the only one seeing racer in the OP's pics.

Look how long your coachwhip's tail is compared to bjlewisscied's pictures. Even with the bit that's cropped out it's muuuch longer.

I honestly do not know to much about black racers, just giving my opinion based off my experience. The baby black racers I have seen look more like corn snakes to me than a coach whip. Got this pic from google search.

Looking at it again I can see the brown pattern saddles that would make me think black racer. The speckles down it's throat. Interesting for sure. Once it sheds out it should be much more clear.
