Are my rats able to eat through half inch mesh?
I just switched from dog foo to Mazuri 6f rodent block. The dog food could easily fall through the mesh an the rats were able to eat it. With this rodent block stuff, I'm not sure they are able to eat it through that mesh. I've seen plenty of youtube videos with people using the same exact thing, but it just doesn't seem like they can get to it. And if they can, they can't get much.

Why not just use a heavy dish?
put a littlwe handful of blocks in there, it lasts them a couple of days. They really don't eat much.

I have 1/4 inch mesh and they get the food fine.
I was paranoid at first too, that they weren't able to get to the lab block so I would place a few blocks in the tubs just in case lol

Yes, that's what I've been doing. But this food is pretty expensive, and I would rather not put it directly in their tub. I've used dishes before, but they always fill it with shavings.

Can rats eat thru half inch mesh... I currently have four racks that hold six tubs each. Racks have half inch hardware cloth. I go thru roughly five hundred pounds of food a month. That food is going somewhere lol.
Rats have no problem getting to the food with half inch hardware cloth!
