They don't stink up the freezer. The rats for me are in ziploc baggies that are in a plastic bag that's in a small box. I don't smell them in the freezer t all. I've heard they can last almost a yer or something. I know do sure they last at least 5 months
If they are vacuum-sealed, they last longer. I've had some pinky mice (for my corn snakes) in my freezer since May and they are still good.
I have a mini-fridge in my bedroom that has two doors (one for the fridge and one for the freezer). I keep my rodents in the freezer and my cokes in the fridge. No smell.

Have you ever pulled something out of the freezer and it looks like it was stored in snow? It's got a bunch of ice crystals on it? That means it's got some pretty bad freezer burn and it should just be tossed out. If they smell really bad thawing, I wouldn't use them. As for the bellies popping, that can happen if the mice are heated up too quickly. That happened to me this week. My lovely little corn thought it would be good to make her feeding tub extra wonderful by squeezing her mouse and then slithering through all the yuck. Then, she proceeded to rub herself in it and begin to shed. Silly girl.
