I agree with kitedemon, if you want to invest in something that is more long term then you might as well make it easy on yourself. Get a cage that will hold temps and humidity well. I can't speak on any other cages other than animal plastics as I haven't personally owned them, but I'm VERY pleased with my AP.
Give Ali at animal plastics a call, she is super nice/knowledgeable. Their cages are PVC, front opening, and under 18 inches. Mine holds humidity and temps very well, with minimal effort. The T-3 is on sale for $175 right now and (from what I read and was told) should be fitting for the duration of any male ball. Also, they will customize a cage to your hearts content. Also the PVC is deceptively light and easy to clean!
