    my next purchase

hey guys, im new to this site and recently got back into bps. ive been breeding boas for the last ten years and decided to downsize and get back into balls. its unbelievable how much has changed since the last time i was keeping up with them. i love it! im starting off by purchasing a few '11s and '12s. i spent some time looking into the snakes i liked and wanted to work with before i started buying. i love bumblebees and the lesser gene, so i started looking into what this combo can do...i was hooked immediately. so i started out by getting what i concider a stunner pastel lesser female, a great looking bumblebee female, and a caramel albino female. i loved the look of the caramel albino and could have cared less if i even bred it. as luck would have it, someone local was selling a spider het caramel male and i picked it up. from there i got a bumblebee male that is arriving tomorrow. now to my question. my other male was going to be a pastel lesser male. im having a hard time finding the one i want, the female has extremely bright yellow and lots of it. so i started looking into the butters and heres where my question comes in. what is the difference between a butter and a lesser if any at all? it seems like they produce the same things with different names to me. of course im fully aware that i could be wrong, but thats where i hope you guys come in.

There have been many debates over the lesser and butter. Some people argue that they are the same morph but of different lines and then others believe they are two completely different morphs. With that said, you really need to make your own decision on how you feel they compare to one another. I personally feel they are the same morph of different lines but when working with them I do treat them as different morphs. I hope that helps.

They're the same morph, just different lines. No differnce. They're extremely variable, so you won't find one that looks exactly like another.

There was a poll on this forum with a lot of voters, and the majority agrees that they're the same thing.

    My male Pastel Butter.

Just wanted to show him off. Purchased from Outback Reptiles and I must say, they have some great deals going around. I think they still have well started males for 350? Not sure. Might be worth checking into if you're looking.

Butters and lessers appear to be the same morph. But quality butters tend to be more yellow, while quality lessers tend to have more of a khaki color. Different lines of the same gene.
    [Python regius]
1.0 Black Butter Pinstripe (Amazeballs), 1.0 Pastel Butter Leopard (Thunderbeeper)
0.1 Spider (Charlotte), 0.1 Leopard (Spot), 0.1 Pastel (Buttercup), Fire Sugar (Abaddon), Crystal (Opalescence)

    [Python brongersmai]
    1.1 T+ Albino (Kushiel & Carmilla)

    [Boa imperator]
1.0 Hypo 100% Het Leopard/66% Het Albino (Darcy)
    0.1 66% Het Leopard/Albino (Gabby)

I've seem extreme variations of both. I don't believe there's a standard "quality" when dealing with this specific morph. For me, as long as the butter/lesser is organized in pattern, and there is a nice contrast in the colors, it's all gravy .

Nice looking male you've got yourself there. My female pastel butter is my avatar.

To the OP: same gene or different, I like both (lesser or butter), so buy what you like and the best quality example of the morph you can afford. Oh and be sure to post pics one you get him/her, lol! Take care and good luck.

    My girl:

A little washed out in that pic; need to get some of her and my others in a light tent but have yet to do it. Eventually...

Since we're talking about lessers x butters, I'll show off my 300g lesser boy. His father was VERY khaki in color, so I expect him to blush out like his dad.

Thanks for all the replies guys. IMO, they look the same and produce the same results, either way, I love both of them. I think I decided and I'm going to get a male Pastel butter. That way I have a line of each started. I would post pics of the bees and pastel lesser, but it doesn't look like I'm aloud to post them yet.

since a butter and a lesser is pretty much the same thing. don't go after a snake cause of it's name. shop the look of the butter or lesser. I have lessers and most will ask if its a butter. here's a pic of one of my pastel lesser
