Need some help from Ny/Ct area members

We just got to Ny to get my niece fitted for prosthetics, the hotel assured us their area wasnt affected much from Sandy so we decided to continue the trip here from Ohio. Well we're here in Hicksville, Ny, and its impossible to get gas. We were planning on driving to lower Ct (50 miles away to Greenwich, Ct) tomorrow to fill up. Does anyone know if there's a fuel shortage there also? Or know of somewhere in the area that we can be guaranteed to get fuel? Thanks for the help/advice!

Re: Need some help from Ny/Ct area members

    Hi there,

Can't speak for myself, but I've had a few friends drive out to CT and get gas there out on I-95.

I waited 3 hours for gas at Glen Cove out in Long Island. Family used this site - http://hessexpress.com/FuelInformation - to search for Hess Stations with the highest inventory. It is updated hourly. This list also contains several gas stations in CT as well.

If you use the above link, then I suggest finding a gas station with 10,000+ gallons. I got lucky on a "short" line waiting 3 hours... but the inventory went down to 6,000 gallons at 10 gallons per car. Hope this helps a bit. Wishing you the best of luck!

Im in Westbrook and we have no shortages here. My father lives in New Haven and its fine there. If you cant get it in Greenwich just keep going north on 95. The mobil stations off the highway probably have gas. There are alot of gas stations off of like every other exit on 95 in CT. Id buy a 5 gallon can or two and fill them up and keep them in your car. Good luck!

EDIT: if you wanna play it even safer you could take the Merrit Parkway (rt 15 i think) up into CT. That runs parallel to 95 but is more inland. There are still gas stations along that too and the plus is that no tractor trailers are allowed on it so its a little bit of an easier drive.

Thanks guys, we'll probably head up to Ct then when were done at the prosthetic place. We also thought about getting a gas can. We only have a little over 1/4 tank so waiting in line for 3 hours isnt going to work but might use that site to check gas in Ct. Thanks again!
