Happy Birthday, Brucie!
So my oldest turns 7 today (5 Nov), and unfortunately it is the 2nd b-day in a row of his that I have missed thanks to the Army keeping me away from home so much. On the bright side, I should be home in at most 5 weeks, so I will be getting to see him soon. His birthday present is going to be two baby American Alligators that we will slaughter and eat once they are about 5' long. I suggested this to him and he thought that it was a great idea, so it's happening whether his mother likes it or not! I'd post a picture of the little man but I don't have access to any at this time. I will be trying to get on a different computer later to post some, if possible.

Haha that's an awesome idea all around its cool when dads do things like that with their kids. I like how when they reach five you'll eat them, reminds me of the meat cows on my cousins farm their so much fun to watch grow up and once the time comes you get meat you know is taken well care of and from what I've heard gator is really good (wouldn't know first hand we lack gators in Minnesota haha)

Happy Bday Brucie! The first thing i thought of was the shark from finding nemo lmao.
Thats something id like to do too someday! Where do you plan to raise them? I would imagine that you cant exactly keep them outside during a CO winter lol. Also did you learn how to butcher them somewhere?

Sounds like someone is getting an awesome late bday present to me. Happy bday little Bruce. While I love the idea of the alligator, please be careful. I don't want any missing fingers or toes. Now missing wife... Lol

Missing wife, huh? If she wasn't the mother of my kids then I'd say go for it! LOL Even if we can't get along she is a great mother and those kids mean the world to her, and vice a versa. As far as butchering, Mike, I will cross that bridge when I get there! I have watched some episodes of swamp people on DVD very closely to see where to cut the skins, however. I will definitely be doing research aside from watching swamp people, however, as I'd like to do something with the hides as well. I am going to be building an enclosure out of either a horse trough or wood with a thick rubber pond liner in it. Filtration will have to be external so they don't knock it about once they get bigger, but I do plan to keep it outside during the summer. As for the meat, gator meat is delicious! Try it if you ever get the chance, Carlson (what is your real name).
