    Question...

    Friend lost power and her 1600 gram female was in the 50s for a day or 2...When she took her out she was very limp....But after a while she started to come around now she is back in a nice warm place and doing fine...question is can she get R I now or what else is there to look for...

    If a BP loses heat for too long they become immobile which is why she was limp. Prolonged absence from heat could lead to organ failure and subsequently be fatal. Keep an eye on her, give her some time before he tries and feed her and hopefully she hasn't had any internal damage. And yes, cold air + humidity = URI. Get her temps back up ASAP and give her a week to recover.

    Make sure your friend does not attempt to feed for at least 7 days, and 14 would be better. Like a human suffering from hypothermia, it will be very easy to over stress her weakened system and cause more harm than good. Keep her warm and quiet. Open her tub daily to listen for the telltale whistling or clicking, but don't handle her unless absolutely necessary.

    If she begins to show symptoms of an RI, medical treatment should be begun at once. If caught early, they are very treatable.
