    Lightbulb Cleaning questions!

This is my BPs' first night at home, and i decided to use paper towels for the first night as substrate. Well sure enough one went to the bathroom. The tub immediately filled with humidity, so i decided to clean it. I grabbed a new tub, put some paper towels in it, moved the water bowl to the other tub(the mess was on the other side of the tub), and before moving her over i saw that she had been sitting in her feces a while. I took her to the bathroom and filled the sink with a little water and just dipped her in(all of her, she was in a ball). Put her in a new tub and back in the rack.

My point is, does using other substrate reduce your concern about how clean you BP is? Do you wash down your BP every time you clean? How many spare hides/water bowls do you have if you need to clean ones the get dirty?

Sorry about all the questions. I'm just curious how everyone else does it.

I've used paper towel and aspen in the past. I currently use newspaper.
I've noticed that the snakes do tend to get more dirty on paper substrate than on aspen. I usually just rub the dirty ones off with warm water or wait until they shed. The paper towels soak up really fast and are usually still very damp after a snake has urinated. Newspaper in my experience is a little better.
Poop and pee tend to clump in aspen, so it's easier for the snake to keep clean since the waste is more or less covered in substrate.

I have a few spare hides and bowls to switch in and out when needed.

Unless the snake is covered in poo, I don't normally wash them. Maybe wipe them down with a damp paper towel.

As Nikki mentioned, using a loose substrate will make the tub less messy, but I prefer paper so I can see the mess right away and deal with it.

    Re: Cleaning questions!

I use newspaper (though I used aspen in the past) and I usually just change out the newspaper when I see the mess. My snakes are usually pretty good about not sitting anywhere near their messes, but I do have a lesser boy that LOVES to pee/poo on whoever is holding him and usually gets it on himself in the process. In that case, I just wipe him off with a warm rag and put him back in his hide. If you don't have any already, I would buy some F10 cleaning solution. I have a spray bottle of it and I always wipe down my tubs with it when there's been a mess.
