Power outage!
What do I do need to do in a power outage, I have no heat packs & nothing that can keep my babies warm & my cousins power is also out & I'm almost for certain he has no other source of heat.

It is a little late to plan now. The best you can do is to keep drafts down around the snakes and maybe put a blanket over the enclosure to keep what heat there is in the enclosures. Do you have access to a kerosene or propane heater? If so, crank it up and ventilate well.

I didn't need to utilize this because my power was only out for about 3.5 hrs and my room didn't drop below 73, but at my apartment complex when the power went out we still had hot water. I ran the bath on hot with the bathroom door shut and the room heated to probably 80+ degrees within minutes.
Just a thought for future reference (assuming you have a generator running your hot water / water pump source)

Re: Power outage!
I didn't lose power at all but it if my temps in my room had dropped below the 70s (which Im sure they would have) I planned on putting my three snakes in snake bags and keeping them under the covers with me. I have a temp gun so I could have made sure they didn't get too hot. Not the best plan probably but it's all I could have done

Re: Power outage!
I also have a battery back up system that will run my flexwatt and also a mid range generator to run the rest.

In a reasonable budget the answer is easy. Gather pop bottles wash them out and if the power fails use the last of the hot water to fill the bottles to 94º this will cool down but it should buy you a number of hours. Cover the enclosures with blankets (if you have che or lamps turn them off before you cover things... It will not do to burn the place down when it comes back on...)
These should help if it is a few hours long term I hope you have a camp stove and can heat more water. A catalytic heater will also work but they may or may not be an off the shelf item.

I have been playing with a battery back up system if I may ask can you describe it?
I was looking at 4 deep cycle batteries with an auto switching inverter (transfer switch) to run a on/off t-stat set to 80ºF and a lenght of heat cable. The cost stopped me. I would be interested in hearing what you have done.

Ughhhhh! :banghead: I'm not even home, & the place I'm staying at has no power either, the last time I was home (around 7PM), we asked the electric people for an estimated time for restoration, & they said 72+ hours. I'm scared that my snakes are already dead, & if they are, I guess this could be used as a lesson to learn from. :banghead:

For temporary short term heat, I'd recommend the hot water bottle method as well. You can heat the water up higher than 94 and drop the water bottle in a sock or something to insulate it and keep the snake from coming in direct contact with the bottle. Drop it in the snake tub and it will at least give them something warm to wrap around if they get too cold... Not a very helpful suggestion if nobody is physically with the snakes to do this though. Sorry for the situation you're in. Definitely take steps to prepare for such emergencies as soon as you can...

Well, I went home this morning & checked on the snakes, & honestly I think if I would have been another 5 minutes, they would have been dead. I picked up the baby mojo who was totally limp; I immediately put him in my coat pocket & put socks in the hole, got my normal out whose head was sort of moving & put him in a blanket. There's a civic improvement building in my neighborhood that is being used as a shelter & ran by generators, so I took the snakes up there and plugged them in & covered them up with a blanket & left open some of their air holes. I will be back up there this evening to make sure they're okay & will update then. :o

Did you notify the shelter that you were housing your snakes there? What if some bored child decides to look in the bin and sees your snakes? That would cause more of a hysteria than the storm!!!
