Deserts and Desert Ghosts

Ok, not singling out anyone or any thread in particular, as this topic is something that has struck me as odd for the better part of the past year...there seems to be some correlation between the desert and desert ghost morphs in the minds of quite a few that far exceeds my comprehension. IMO, other than both having 'desert' in their given names, there are relatively few, if any real similarities between the two. In appearance on their own, they are very noticeably different, and they are different in combos. Not to even mention one being a recessive, the other at least dominant.

In some of the past threads on the desert gene, it seems common to see people mention the desert ghost gene as the logical alternative...I just don't see it. It's not like caramels and ultramels, where they are very similar but the ultramel is more vibrant and sharp(IMO).

I understand that they are different, but their ability to clean up "noise," in pattern and make colors really pop are what attracts me to both morphs. I also think the fire gene does a good job at cleaning up the paint job on a ball python, just not as well IMHO.

Your thread did spur this one, but if I felt compelled to do so, I bet I could search back and find at least a half dozen posts where desert ghost comes directly into discussion pertaining to deserts...on this forum alone.

I think whenever the word desert comes along, word association comes into play. I was looking at the photo of the desert ghost clown someone put up, and it reminded me how awesome the desert ghost combos are.

The Desert Ghost does not always have the genetic reduced pattern. Just my .02 cents is the Desert Ghost is just another line of the Hypo gene. If you look at the Desert Ghost Super Pastel and the Ghost Super Pastel they look very similar. Also if you look at the Butter Desert Ghost and the Butter Ghost they look similar. Do they look exactly alike? No, but a butter Green ghost and butter Orange ghost don't look the same either and you don't see people going nuts looking for Green Ghosts or butterscotch ghosts! To date I am not really excited about any of the combo morphs I have seen come out of the Desert Ghost project. I would be very interested in seeing the result of a Desert Ghost to Orange Ghost combo.

I think the desert and desert ghost have similarities in appearance. Both throw reduced bold pattern animals. The desert may be the more extreme of the two but if i were to pick a close comparison to desert i would choose the desert ghost. I agree pastel and lesser mixes look similar to orange ghost combos but look at the desert ghost pin and desert ghost lemonblast.
