My big girl locked twice for sure and probably more in the last two weeks. If it took, when would she .be laying. I know that you can't say exactly when. I'm just trying to figure the gestation on these animals. I think I should be watching for signs of building and ovulation.

She could lay anywhere from the end of January, to next August to never! You hit the nail on the head when you said you were going to look for signs of ovulation. There really isn't any reason to count until you catch that ovy!

I don't think it technically takes until ovy. Females can retain sperm for a while (at least a year) and I believe ovy is when the follicles they develop are moved lower in the body and fertilized with the retained sperm and become eggs. As aalomon said, Ovy is when you can start counting the days until she lays. Unless you have an ultrasound machine or are really good at feeling for the follicles and can guess their size, even then I don't think you can get an exact date.

Short answer. They go when they are ready and if they feel like it. Ive had girls ovulate after pairing for 3-4 months and some that went after pairing for 7. Then on top of that another month and a half to 2 months before laying. Patience is key. Look for the signs of building and building behavior once you get them down youll know when shes getting close to going for you. Then once you catch an ovulation you can start the countdown. Unless she changes her mind that is. Good luck

I bred 12 females last year starting in November, 10 females gave up eggs, got our first clutch in May...enjoy the ride

It takes time a long time for the process to happen a couple locks doesn't mean you will get eggs right away. I read Justin Kobylka's tips on breeding and it really helped this last year. Every one tries to breed as many times as they can stick the male in with the female every week or every two weeks. Make it easier on you and the snake only breed them once a month. I started breeding last year in November and I paired them once a month all the way til I saw an ovulation which was in april so it took 6 months for the female to become pregnant. She ended up giving me 8 good eggs and also gave me my first triple gene snake. This is not something that goes fast so you have to have patience and just enjoy the snakes.

Good luck could me months before she even ovulates. We are not breeding rabbits here, these bad boys take some time and patience but once you get started it is a great hobby.
