How do you go about cleaning?

    Hello everyone.
I was wondering what you guys use to clean your BP's cages and how you go about doing it. Currently I am using Chlorhexidine (2%) but I can't get the poop smell out of her hides. When I clean her cage (once a month) I take everything out, spray it down with the chlorhexidine mix, let it sit for about 10 minutes, scrub it down with a sponge, and rinse everything thoroughly. I also then take all the bedding out of her cage, rinse it, spray it, let it sit for 10 minutes, scrub, and rinse again. I this is a pretty detailed explanation on how I do things, but I am frustrated on how everything still smells like poop lol. I also worry that I am not cleaning everything enough and bacteria or something might grow inside and damage/kill my BP.

So what do you guys use to clean your cage's and hides, and how do you go about doing it?

    Thanks!

Mine are in tubs, on paper towels. When the pee, or poo, I remove all towels, spray with f10, them wipe down and replace with fresh paper towels. Only time I can smell them is when I wake up and somebody has left a big poo overnight.

I use either F10 or chlorhexidine 2% solution to disinfect the cages, then this stuff to remove odors.

I keep mine on aspen. I like paper towels better, but I've opened tubs too many times and found them laying in "snake soup." Mine must be incredible pee machines because I've put almost half a paper towel roll in a bin and had them soak it completely.

I have a spatula in the snake room dedicated to the task of removing any wastes that only require a spot cleaning. For total clean outs I dump the aspen in trash can, scrape it out with the spatula, rinse it out in the snower, then wipe it out with a paper towel. I spray it down with F-10 and let it dry. I have two extra tubs so that I can switch snakes out easier when I'm cleaning their bins.

It looks like you have missed a step. Disinfectants unless you run cultures the only way to know they are working is to follow the instructions. The method is clear clean everything up remove all debris clean/scrub with soap or detergent rinse THEN use Chlorhexidine. I also use healthy habitat after the disinfectant is complete

    "Veterinary or Farm Premises
    1. Remove all animals and feed from premises, vehicles and other equipment.
    2. Remove all litter and manure from floors, walls and surfaces of barns, pens, stalls, chutes and other facilities and
fixtures occupied or traversed by animals.
    3. Empty all troughs, racks and other feeding and watering appliances.
    4. Thoroughly clean all surfaces with soap or detergent and rinse with water.
    5. Saturate all surfaces with the recommended disinfecting solution for a period of 10 minutes.
    6. Immerse all halters, ropes and other types of equipment used in handling and restraining animals, as well as forks,
shovels and scrapers used for removing litter and manure.
    7. Thoroughly scrub all treated feed racks, mangers, troughs, automatic feeders, fountains and waterers with soap or
detergent, and rinse with potable water before reuse."

F10 and most (all?) reptile safe ones are the same in fact.

    http://www.f10biocare.co.uk/vetguidelines2.pdf

the F10scXD is the detergent cleanser they produce and is recommended for cleaning before disinfecting.

This is why my rack is so hard to clean, dusting out the body, removing the heat tape checking all the connections scrub with soap and water rinse two of three times saturate with disinfectant wait dry. The tape gets cleaned too carefully, the tubs as well and then everything needs to be dried and returned. It takes me between 3 and 4 hours to do a monthly clean on the rack it is a huge job. Everybody says they are so fast to clean but I don't think any whom say this disinfect the body of the rack, at least not following the instructions anyway. My enclosures with plants and such are at least 1/3 faster than each slot of the rack.

Here's what I do, get you a big glove for washing dishes and keep it in the room for spot cleaning over the month.

Then at a month or so clean out the tank/tubs with 1 of the above methods, and go ahead and clean the glove(s) off while you are at it.

But having the big washable non latex glove makes it easy to clean poop and urates out to try ad get rid of the smell before it soaks in!!!!
